Entrecard Opens Applications for Cashout- BEWARE the Insecure Form

Entrecard users will now find a link in their dashboard to the application which, when approved, will give a member the ability to cashout credits at the rate of $1 per 1000 Entrecard Credits.

This all seems straightforward enough. They do need a real life identity and PayPal email address in order to process the cashout requests. I started to fill out the application, but balked before I got to the end. They are asking for a tax ID / SS#. Note that this is an insecure form! That is my first concern.

My second concern is why they need this information at all. I make money from quite a few online sites, and unless I break the $600/year threshold, that information should not be needed at all. When income from one site rises above that (in the USA), then a W-9 form must be supplied to the payer/employer.

So, for now, I'm not signing up for cashout. You should NOT enter your SS# unless they fix this form, even if you are willing to provide it.

web ad income today (3 blogs, 2 web sites):
Adsense $.63
Adgitize $.84
Project Wonderful $.02

Graham Langdon, owner of entrecard has proven himself to be rather unstable. Last fall he even bragged about being homeless and at the moment he is desperate for money as creditors threaten to pull the plug on entrecard. If entrecard fold take into consideration that Graham would still have your personal information. You would have no idea of what he could use it for and I doubt he would use that information to your benefit. No one should give out their SS# to someone like Graham. That is just inviting trouble!

Anyone who gives over their tax ID number, or God forbid, their SS# is insane. Thank you for posting about this. I'm leaving EC, but fear for the people who provide that information in the hopes of a couple bucks from the service. Yikes!

i haven't signed up for the EC cashout yet.i don't know,i just feel like there's gonna be more harm than good if I'll jump the gun without getting all the necessary info yet about this.i'm still waiting for clear rules and regulations about the cashout.I'm in a wait-and-see mode.thanks for reminding us not to give out our tax/SS #.we'll never know if it's another form of phishing or something.

I've deleted all but one blog, which will be gone by the middle of the week. I'm dumping as many credits as I can into advertising rather than mess with filling in information on an un-secure form.

They rip their britches with me when I was suddenly accused of spamming an advertiser.

Gardengnome, Kathy, Femme, and Shari- Thanks for all your input. I'm still in wait-and-see mode, but I'm not too impressed with how this has been handled.

I have cut and run! Entrecard worries me. I'm not from US but I imagine it's the same as giving what we call 'national insurance numbers'.

A short time ago I was writing for a site which has now disappeared and they wanted my passport details and a photocopy of it before they would pay me. Needless to say they didn't get the details and I didn't get paid!

Hi lizzie- Yes, we do need to be wise enough to not give out all that info indiscriminately! Thanks for stopping by.

HI jose- Glad you found this helpful. I am still finding EC a great place to meet blogging friends, but I'm not sure how the cashing out for actual money is going to work out.
