Broken Control Key - Now What?

control key

So, the Control key on my laptop keyboard is dead. Not dirty, dead, D-E-A-D. I'm a keyboard person. Do you have any idea how annoying that is?

How to get the Task Manager? Right click on the Task Bar (the bar at the bottom of the screen) and choose Task Manager. Or, do Start > Run > taskmgr.

Copy? You can use the mouse to highlight and then choose Edit/Copy, and the same to then paste it. Puleeeze! Too slow. Highlight, right click choose Copy, and then the same to paste it. A tiny bit better.

I am waiting anxiously for my next credit card cycle so I can get this keyboard replaced. Meanwhile, I've can at least limp along until I have Ctrl+Alt+Del, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V back!

I take it your laptop doesn't have a right ctrl then? My EeePC does. It's tiny, only half the size of a letter key, but it's there in between my arrow keys and menu key. It would be a real pain if my left ctrl were broken, but I could still use my shortcuts (albeit, I would have to re-learn them!).

I agree with Joy that most keyboard should have a right ctrl. Although I have never really used it. Mostly I use the left control. :)

I assume you've already removed the key (gently) and had a poke about beneath it?

Thanks for the tips, everyone! Yes, I have a right Control key. I find it very awkward, and yes, I've cleaned the key. Truth is, the whole keyboard is failing, so I hope to replace it soon.
